Equally bittersweet is recent Pulitzer Prize winning composer Jennifer Higdon’s blue cathedral, a contemporary work which pays homage to her late brother. Our featured guest artist, Elizabeth Pitcairn, will thrill with her magical playing of Sibelius on the legendary 1720 “Red Mendelssohn” Stradivarius.

Ode to Joy

The season finale brings together the region’s broad spectrum of talent. The program begins with present-day composer Christopher Theofanidis’ stirring opus, Rainbow Body, which echoes a chant by 12th century visionary Hildegard of Bingen. Then, choruses with soloists will join the Orchestra in performing Beethoven’s last symphony, leaving a lasting and powerful musical impression to complete our season on a high note.
